Do I need sewing experience to join? Is this suitable for kids?

No experience required, and yes — this class is built for both adults and kids to sew side by side. It opens with a simple refresher on machine safety and straight stitching (kid-friendly pacing included), then moves into appliqué techniques, cutting and placing shapes (stars, moons, letters), and edge-stitching around curves and points — a great confidence-builder for little hands and a nice refresher for adults.

How long does it take, and is it too long for kids to sit through?

The session is paced in short, engaging blocks so kids stay focused: choosing shapes/letters and cutting (~30 min), pinning and machine-stitching appliqués (~45 min, with parent-child turns at the machine), assembling and sewing the cushion panels (~45 min), and stuffing and closing the cushion (~30–40 min). Built-in breaks and hands-on switching keep energy up for younger sewers.

Do I need to bring our own fabric and materials?

Nothing to bring — cushion fabric, stuffing/filling, alphabet and shape templates (stars, moons, hearts, initials, etc.), thread, and any embellishments are all included.

Can kids actually use the sewing machine safely?

Yes — machines are provided, and kids sew under close guidance with slow-speed settings and hands-on supervision throughout. Parents are encouraged to sit alongside and assist, making it a true shared, hands-on activity rather than a watch-and-wait experience.

Can we choose our own letters, shapes, or design layout?

Yes — you choose the combination of alphabets and shapes (like an initial, or picking a favorite star-and-moon theme) from the templates provided, so every cushion turns out personal and unique. It's a fun, low-pressure way to build core machine confidence and appliqué skills together — perfect groundwork before tackling bigger joint projects, like a matching tote bag or a custom pillow set.
