Do I need any sewing experience?

No. This class is designed for complete beginners — we start from how to thread a machine and hold fabric correctly.

What age range of kids' clothing works best for sizing?

Best suited for sizing children ages 1–7 years.

What's the class size / student-to-instructor ratio?

Classes are kept small and personal — usually 2 to 4 students per session — so you'll get plenty of individual guidance.

Is this suitable as a gift class?

Yes — gift bookings are welcome. Simply let us know when booking that it's a gift and we'll take care of the rest.

Session 1:

• Reading a garment as a pattern — how to lay a child's existing top flat, trace the shape, and add seam allowance
• Cutting accurately — pinning pattern pieces, cutting on grain, notching
• Machine basics — threading, tension, straight stitch, backstitching (for total beginners)
• Sewing shoulder & side seams — first real "garment construction" moment
• Finishing raw edges — zigzag or overlock-style finish so it doesn't fray in the wash
• Hemming — clean, even hem by machine and add a serger

Session 2:

• Pattern drafting from the reference garment
• Sewing curves — a harder skill than straight seams, good progression point
• Elastic waistbands — measuring elastic to the child's actual waist, casing construction, inserting elastic
• Sewing the inseam & crotch seam
• Leg hems — matching the two legs evenly
• Optional add-ons depending on time/skill: pockets, cuffed hems, contrast fabric trim

What should I bring?

• One item of your child's clothing that fits them well right now (a top for Session 1, pants for Session 2) — this is what we use to get the correct size
• Optional: your own fabric, if you'd prefer to use something specific (see below)
• Comfortable clothing you don't mind getting a bit of fabric fluff or chalk marks on

Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?

No — machines are provided for all students.

Is fabric included?

Yes, fabric is provided. If you'd like to use your own fabric instead (e.g. a special print, or something more meaningful for a gift), you're welcome to bring it along.
